Speech language therapy is provided to individuals who have any degree of difficulty in understanding others, speaking to others or both. It also includes varying degrees of difficulty in eating or swallowing food and drink.

A consultation entails a detailed interview with the parents, family and/or caregivers, to gain an insight into the presenting complaint.

“The Most Merciful, taught the Qur'an, created man, and taught him articulate speech.”

I begin my course of treatment with a brief assessment of the condition: this may be conducted face to face or through telepractice. The purpose of the assessment is to draw out the goals and objectives to be addressed through therapy. These goals may include teaching or correction of the patient’s speech and language, developing or improving attention and listening skills as well as modification of a behaviour that may impede or interfere with communication.

For individuals with feeding and swallowing disorders, a face to face consultation may be deemed necessary for an instrumental evaluation of the condition.

The family and caregivers are always provided with guidelines on effective communication at home in order to support the goals being targeted.
